POSTPONED: Panel Discussion Event - Catholic Social Teaching and Australian Politics (Ref: 154/24)
Catholic Schools NSW has partnered with The La Salle Academy at Australian Catholic University to host an expert panel exploring Catholic Social Teaching and its ability to achieve better policy-making in Australia, including in education. Panellists include the CEO of Catholic Schools NSW, Mr Dallas McInerney, The Hon. Susan Carter, Ms Julia Finn MP, Professor Br David Hall fms.
The event will now be held in November 2024, with a final date to be confirmed in due course.
Term 3 NESA Have Your Say Consultation on 7-10 Syllabuses (Ref: 157/24)
NESA will conduct Have Your Say periods during Term 3 to consult on a range of elective 7-10 syllabuses. Links to NESA recordings summarising the changes to the syllabuses and to the feedback surveys will be provided in next week’s Scholar when the links become live.

To conclude a year of diverse symposiums, CSNSW will host the Curriculum Reform Conference (30 September – 1 October) and the CSNSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Conference (22 October – 24 October).
The Curriculum Reform Conference: Animating the Curriculum for Human Flourishing will explore the transformative impact of the NSW Curriculum Reform and holistic approach of Catholic schooling on secondary students, equipping them to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

2024 NESA HSC Study Guide (Ref: 156/24)
The NSW Education Standards Authority, in partnership with The Sydney Morning Herald, has released the 2024 HSC Study Guide, which is packed with everything students need to reach their HSC exam goals.
Students can find tips to help their study routine, access the HSC quiz and read advice from past students and markers.
The guide also includes advice from mental health and wellbeing experts at ReachOut on how to support students, as well as tailored tips for parents and families on how to support their children in the lead-up to exams.
This year’s HSC Study Guide busts some of the common misconceptions about the HSC, including how marks are calculated, the disability provisions program, and illness misadventures. It also provides specific information regarding vocational education and training (VET) courses as part of the HSC and advice on finding the right course that fits different career goals.

2024 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations FINAL Timetable
The 2024 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations FINAL Timetable was made available to schools in early Term 2 and is available here on the CSSA website.
The dates for the 2024 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations Timetable are
- Monday 5 August and concludes Monday 19 August
The 2024 CSSA Trial HSC Examinations Security Period is
- up to, and inclusive of, Wednesday 21 August 2024
- Examinations, including examination-related materials and student scripts, can be returned to students from 8.00 am, Thursday 22 August 2024
Delivery Rounds
- First Round Deliveries
- For schools that have ordered examinations per cohort (one per student) and using the 2024 CSSA Trial HSC Examination Timetable
- Delivered to schools from Tuesday 23 July to Friday 26 July 2024 (Week 1, Term 3)
- Delivery includes four information documents in support of school preparation for the CSSA Trial HSC Examinations.
- An electronic signature is required from the school representative receiving the CSSA delivery.
- The date, time and location of delivery will be electronically collected.
- Ensure secure storage of boxes immediately upon delivery.
- Second Round Deliveries
- Schools that have purchased a minimum order of examinations (5 copies per subject)
- Orders will be delivered to schools from Monday 9 September 2024 (Week 8, Term 3)
- An electronic signature is required from the school representative receiving the delivery.
- The date, time and location of delivery will be electronically collected.

Each school is responsible for updating its school account details on the CSSA website. This information was provided to schools in the 2024 CSSA Principal Information Package.

Freedom for Faith is hosting the FREEDOM24 Conference from 9 am to 4 pm on Monday 5 August at Village Church Annandale in Sydney.
Livestream tickets are free, to maximise access for those who cannot attend in person.
FREEDOM24 conference will develop your understanding of threats to religious freedom in Australia from historical, theological and policy perspectives.
Historian Sarah Irving-Stonebraker will examine the history of religious freedom, while John McClean of Christ College will share a theological perspective on how the church is to respond to legal threats to ministry. We will also have a number of experts unpack the major religious freedom concerns in Australia, as well as implications and paths forward for advocacy.

- Faith-based schools and the Sex Discrimination Act
- NSW Conversion Practices Act
- NSW Equality Bill

Complete: 2024 AEDC Data Collection (Ref: 150/24)
Thank you for participating in the 2024 Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) Data Collection. The AEDC data is critical in helping to inform transition to school programs, discover how well early childhood programs are preparing children for school and develop target resources and services to support children’s and families’ wellbeing.
Data release:
- All schools have access to a preliminary report.
- School profiles are released in November this year and will be sent directly to the school principal.
- A National report will be released in March 2025. This will be publicly available.
AEDC NSW Microlearning modules – new modules
The NSW Department of Education has added new modules that schools can freely access to support their engagement with their AEDC school profiles.
The new modules are modules 9, 10 and 11. Module 11 will be available by the start of term 3.
